What next for the MSP Model?

The current MSP model is under serious threat

Digital Workplace Transformation is making IT more important to every organisation.  Those that ignore it do so at their peril.  They simply can’t survive in an increasingly connected, competitive world.

It doesn’t take much reading to realise that current MSP business models are threatened. The model of per device or per user support is becoming significantly challenged through technology shift.

Thanks to the cloud, there is less on-premise infrastructure to support, and end-point support is increasingly a commodity item, with price becoming more and more important to customers.

That’s ironic, given that IT is increasingly ever more important to our clients, and ever more complex. What’s happening is that clients need us differently. They need us to help them navigate an increasing number of choices, finding efficiencies and opportunities that never existed before.

But that also means we need to work in ways we never worked before, with new methodologies, new skills and above all, new service offerings.

What is a next-generation MSP?

There have been innumerable views, articles and webinars on the nature of a next-generation MSP. Mostly these are self-serving, so instead we simply pose the question – what does a business need from it’s IT team, in a world with less on-premise infrastructure, more cloud-based software, and more connected clients and staff?

We think it’s pretty straightforward. They need

  • Help ensuring the tools they select work together
  • Help talking to suppliers in terms they can understand
  • Help ensuring the services are secure, and robust
That’s a huge opportunity, and there is a lot to it, reviewing existing choices as well as the future. Helping clients succeed using IT smarter is the ultimate goal
